Denton, TX Chiropractic Effective for Cervicogenic Headache

We see a great number of men and women with headaches in our Denton, TX office, and Dr. Steve Eustice has been able to help many of them. Indeed, the World Health Organization (WHO) states that 50 percent of all adults deal with some sort of headache problem, so this really isn’t surprising. One of the most frequent types of headaches that our patients endure is cervicogenic headache which, thankfully, chiropractic can usually help.

What is a Cervicogenic Headache?

A cervicogenic headache is one that starts from a problem in the cervical spine. It might be thanks to an issue with either the spine itself (particularly, the vertebrae, joints, or discs), or it could be brought on by a problem in the muscles and tendons of your neck. This dysfunction in your spine brings about squeezing or irritation of the spinal nerves, which can contribute to headache pain.

How can you find out if the headache you are experiencing is a cervicogenic headache? Besides getting a diagnosis from a healthcare expert, a frequent symptom of cervicogenic headaches is tenderness or discomfort in your neck. This is sometimes combined with pain in the back of your head or between your shoulder blades.

How Chiropractic Helps

Considering cervicogenic headaches will not go away until whatever issue is triggering them is remedied, it is vital to receive treatment as opposed to just trying to "wait it out." Chiropractic care is an effective solution, and one that offers a considerable amount of relief.

In one study printed in Chiropractic & Osteopathy, experts looked at 80 people who had frequent cervicogenic headaches. Half got chiropractic care and the other half underwent light massage therapy. Each participant was evaluated 12 and 24 weeks after the procedures and it was discovered that chiropractic provided the most beneficial outcomes.

Specifically, this study noted that chiropractic adjustments provided patients more pain relief and reduced the number of headaches that occurred. In addition, it also mitigated the disability that resulted from these painful headaches.
